ABSTRACT

Systems designers must understand certain key factors when designing products to be used by operators, including the work that the operator will do, the complexities and challenges that the operator will face, and the context in which the operator will work. The deeper the understanding of the roles, jobs, and environmental complexities of a particular operator and a potential system, the more likely a designer will be able to develop an innovative product that increases both the quality and the effectiveness of the operator’s work.
