ABSTRACT
Our enthusiasm for the study of ideal SHOs is tempered by the discomfiting realisation that such beasties are not to be found in nature. Actual oscillating systems [almost1] never follow precisely repeating trajectories. Instead, they are observed to endure a relentless diminution of their range of motion until, finally, they come to a stop.
