ABSTRACT
In the presentation of simple and damped harmonic oscillators thus far, the dynamical evolution of the system proceeded without external interference. That is, any direct external action on the system was limited to the imposition of initial conditions. E.g., the blockspring system was displaced from its equilibrium position by some specified amount and then let go, or was given an impulsive kick to set it in motion.
