ABSTRACT

SHO The SHO modelled only the effects of the spring force and the inertia of the block. All dissipative effects, e.g., friction and drag, were assumed to vanish, as were any other forces which might have done a net amount of work on the block. Under these conditions, the total mechanical energy is conserved, and thus it is [almost] inevitable that the motion be oscillatory. The dynamical behaviour of the system is governed by its natural frequency, ω0.
