ABSTRACT

A 30-year-old woman at 26 weeks’ gestation reports positive for group B streptococcus on the high vaginal swab culture. Choose the most appropriate course of action in this clinical situation.

Repeat the high vaginal swab at 37 weeks

Treat with oral antibiotics for one week

Advise that she will need intravenous antibiotics in labour

Treat with oral antibiotics after delivery for one week

Advise that, if untreated antenatally, it can lead to neonatal GBS septicaemia
