ABSTRACT

The optimal charge carrier mobility in a device made with pentacene was higher than 5 cm2 V –1 s-1. Such performance is comparable to that of amorphous silicon FETs. The effectiveness of devices depends critically on the crystal morphology of pentacene films, which was usually fabricated using vapor phase deposition under a high vacuum. The low solubility of pentacene in most solvents is a drawback for its utility in solutions. Many efforts have been attempted to prepare “soluble” pentacene precursors in order to solve this problem.17-21 A few such type of precursors have been reported previously, whereas most of them were cyclic adducts of a small volatile dienophile with pentacene. Solid films were prepared from the solutions of the precursors by spin-coating, then a chemical reaction was triggered by either heat or light to re-generate pentacene.
