ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 was about moving goods from the mine or farm to the consumer, along each step in the supply chain. Chapter 10 is about moving goods in the reverse direction, from the consumer back toward the point of origin. Reverse logistics (RL) is about reusing, repairing, and recycling products to satisfy both economic and sustainability objectives. Often, the RSC is not as well organized as the forward supply chain. However, it is becoming an important consideration for all companies who make products, especially those that contain potentially harmful ingredients if deposited in landfills, such as automobiles and computers. As you read this company profile and the chapter in the book, think about these questions:

• Does your school or organization actively recycle waste products? • What will happen to your smartphone when you want to dispose of it? • Should the government require companies to do more in RL? • How can you contribute to the RL movement?
