ABSTRACT

Mitigating the impacts of freshwater harmful algal blooms (HABs) and HAB toxins on humans and ecosystems is a challenging and complex problem. The issues are multifaceted and require an understanding of the causes and drivers of HABs, bloom dynamics, toxicology and impacts of HABs on human health, ecotoxicity, policy and regulatory instruments to reduce HABs, and the engineering design of conventional or advanced drinking water treatment processes. This book has provided an overview of the state of knowledge of these different facets.
