ABSTRACT

This category consists of antimicrobial body soaps, hand soaps, towelette hand wipes, and other associated products. The purpose of these types of products is to reduce transient, potentially pathogenic microorganisms picked up in the environment (e.g., from countertops, coins, door handles, etc.). These types of products are often intended, too, to remove excess normal microbial flora found particularly in moist body areas [30]. The types of clinical trials currently used in evaluating these products include the Healthcare Personnel Handwash, the Modified Cade Handwash, the general-use handwash for hand soaps, and axilla cup scrub sampling for body soaps [20].
