While Frank instructed the team of value stream mappers, Jim began a series of face-to-face meetings with each of Don’s direct reports. He soon found himself depressed by the dearth of management material. Calvin Jones seemed to be the epitome of Don’s direct reports. Calvin was Don’s operations manager. When asked how he made day-to-day decisions about what products to make, Calvin responded.
