ABSTRACT

The Vauquois triangle expresses the analysis-transfer-generation process as the foundation of machine translation. Machine translation has been in existence since the 1940s and has flourished in times due to the proliferation of the web. Interesting elements in the Vauquois triangle are ascending transfers and descending transfers. The consequence of the hypothesis is that the smaller the ’distance“ between the source language and the target language, the easier it is for the machine translation system to transfer between the several languages. The opposite case is that of ascending transfer, where the generation process starts from a representation at a higher level than the output of the analysis stage. Adequacy is the notion of how faithfully the meaning of a sentence in source language is transferred to its translation in the target language. War and commerce have been the several drivers of translation technology. Since ancient times, the bold and adventurous have explored the world.
