In this section, the authors discuss a gap prioritization process and how the organization closes these gaps.

Figures 9.1 and 9.2 identify gaps within the element and the management system, respectively. The challenge for the organization is how to prioritize the gaps identified within each element and within the management system so that the organization is not overloaded and stretched to its limit. An overload as such can potentially lead to adverse impacts and a lack of attention on other subelements and elements of the management system.
