ABSTRACT

In this section, the authors identify and discuss seven fundamentals essential for organizations to achieve operational excellence in their business. These fundamentals, although not new, limit the potential for the organization to achieve excellence if not properly and adequately addressed. To achieve operational excellence, businesses must take a disciplined approach toward ensuring that these fundamentals are addressed in a sustained and consistent manner across the business. Failure to adopt a disciplined approach to addressing these fundamentals can result in substandard health, safety, and environmental performance, as well as weaker business performance.
