ABSTRACT
As an F1, you will often be asked to assess patients who have fallen on the wards. The majority will be elderly patients who have sustained ‘mechanical’ falls with no major consequences, but don’t get caught out! Examine each patient thoroughly. The assessment can be considered in three parts:
A, B, C, D, E assessment.
Establishing the cause for the fall if possible.
Identifying and treating any physical injury.
