ABSTRACT

Natural vegetation that has evolved through the ages varies widely in terms of composition and dominance of plant species. Natural vegetation can be identified into forests, shrubland, prairies, wetlands, swamps, wasteland with scanty vegetation cover, and a few other variants. Development of a particular type of vegetation depends on variety of factors related to topography, soils type and its fertility, climate, and plant diversity available in the region. In the context of this chapter, we are concerned with “Agricultural Prairies” that are grouped as wetlands (e.g., rice), and arable cropping expanses that support variety of crops.
