ABSTRACT

As mentioned in the introduction to the last QI (quality improvement) stories are the standard presentation format for the 7 steps reactive improvement activities. (The Broken Pellicle case study of the last chapter-Section 9.3-was presented in the format of a QI story.) The QI stories are presented to management, and managers have a standard way of responding, called management diagnosis [54], to the 7 steps

story. There are several reasons for presenting and diagnosing the stories. Such a process does the following:

o Diffuses good improvement practices throughout the organization example • Acknowledges team accomplishment • Increases improvement skills of the team through management review and com-

ment ("diagnosis") @ Creates management buy-in to standardize the solution • Ensures legitimacy of conclusions!
