ABSTRACT

In this part of the book on continuous improvement, we have been through the components of the WV model (Figure 13-1). The WV model shows the problem solving moving between the level of thought and the level of experience. You sense a problem, explore the situation broadly, fonnulate a problem to work on, state a specific improvement theme, collect data and analyze the situation, find the root causes, plan a implement evaluate the effects of the solution, standardize the process to include the new solution is good, and then take on the next

Sometimes a defect occurs during process control (right side of the WV model). You must eliminate it, the manual for the process, to make the process work

within specification again. Standard operating procedures are used to address the problem. This was described in Chapter 6. The key methods of process control are standardization, statistical process control, and inspection.
