ABSTRACT

Definition/overview Perinatal lamb mortality in the majority of UK ocks ranges from 7% to 15% with estimates as high as 25% in some ocks during adverse weather. In New Zealand the perinatal lamb mortality rate is estimated to be between 15% and 20%, with an estimated one million lambs dying each year from hypothermia alone. In the USA lamb mortality reports range from 10% to 35% of the annual lamb crop. The target perinatal lamb mortality gure should be less than 7% with 5% achievable.
