ABSTRACT

Image interpolation and registration are two important tools in the eld of remote sensing applications, and in addition they are closely related. Actually, the remapping of an acquired image often requires a resampling of the image

itself before subpixel translation, rotation, deformation, or warping can be achieved [185]. At the same time, image interpolation is usually the rst step of a fusion procedure between two types of remote sensing data having dierent spatial resolutions, that is, pansharpening. In this case, a preliminary correct registration is mandatory because if the two images are misregistered, the interpolation and the successive fusion procedure cannot produce the desired results [45].
