ABSTRACT
In this chapter we look at the view from lower in the organization. What influences people’s behavior? What kinds of problems arise? Can they solve these problems alone?
Joe’s Story Every Friday Joe and his friend Paul, both workers at Televar, go to Henry’s Pub to mull over the week’s events. Joe is a senior engineer in the hardware design group. He manages teams and has a lot of administrative experience. Joe is outgoing but somewhat cynical; he has been around. Paul is a technician, less senior than Joe, part of the group that’s responsible for making the designs work. He tends to be more thoughtful. The men enjoy getting together at the end of each week to talk shop and drink beer. Joe is sitting at the bar when Paul walks in.
