ABSTRACT

Most domestic water consumption is for washing and cleaning. The domestic use of watercreatesašowthatcontainsdissolved,suspended,andsolidwaste,de—nedas wastewater.

Householdwastewatercanbedividedintoblackwatercontainingwastewater generatedbythetoilet(fecesandurine)andgreywatercontainingallotheršows: bathing, washing, laundry, and kitchen water. In addition, there are also those who distinguishbetweenlightgreywaterincludingbathingandrinsingwastewater(such asthatfromashower,bath,andhandbasin)anddarkgreywaterconsistingofkitchen wastewaterandsometimesevenwashingmachinewastewater.Theuseofwaterin generalandthegenerationofgreywaterinparticularvarybetweenlocationsdepending on factors such as water availability, consumption habits, and economic status (Figure 1.1).
