ABSTRACT

The rst best practice of Lean Six Sigma is the use of a common realistic metric for quality assessment and improvement [2]. DPMO and Sigma level are the commonly accepted metrics that are universally applied in most Six Sigma projects. These metrics are also easily understood by upper management and do not require high-level mathematics and statistics to explain, understand, and benchmark to other programs or companies. The second best practice of Lean Six Sigma is clear assignment of roles and responsibilities in performance improvement efforts [2]. It is critical to dene the Lean Six Sigma team and member responsibilities. This allows for better tracking of results and accountability. The third best practice of Lean Six Sigma is to allow capabilities to grow for larger roles for business competitiveness; unlike many other quality tools or certication systems that remain essentially the same throughout their useful life, Six Sigma is organic [2].
