ABSTRACT

Immunology is a branch of biology that deals with the tasks performed by cells, molecules and organs, to protect the body of higher organisms such as fi shes, reptiles, birds and mammals, against external assault of agents with potential ability to create a functional damage to the host itself resulting in a life threat. Almost any living organism evolved on the earth has a more or less sophisticated immune system. The most convenient view of the immune system is the one that identifi es cells as the main actors of the immune response and the agent-based paradigm as the most straightforward way to implement it.
