Some companies allow only qualified fitters to carry out maintenance, servicing, and repairs on their drills and ancillary equipment. This can also include sharpening tungsten carbide drill bits, repairing and servicing downhole motors, repairing tyres, and repairing wire ropes. In this situation the driller will: • carry out regular checks and inform the fitters as soon as
possible if anything is not correct • stop drilling until repairs are completed if there is a risk of
doing damage.
