ABSTRACT

The sodium fast reactor consists of numerous systems and components that have to work in synchronization with each other to produce the desired reactor power. The major systems include the reactor core system, nuclear steam supply system (NSSS), instrumentation and control (I&C) system, and energy conversion system (ECS). In this chapter, the concepts involved in reactor core design, which includes the pin and subassembly (SA) design, functions, and descriptions of various components that are involved in the primary and secondary heat transport system followed by components in the NSSSs, I&C system, etc., are discussed.
