ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with robust approaches to Factor Analysis. Factor Analysis (FA) is closely related to PCA, but the reasoning is rather different. The most important difference is that PCA follows from purely geometrical considerations, while Factor Analysis is based on an underlying statistical model. Statistical modeling brings about a set of inferential tools (e.g., hypothesis testing, confidence intervals).
