ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present the photonic generation of noise signals or incoherence signals in the subterahertz (sub-THz) region. First, we describe how to control the bandwidth and output power of subTHz noise signals using an optical amplified spontaneous emission noise, a wavelength-tunable laser, an optical filter, and a photodiode. Then, we demonstrate their applications to imaging not only to enhance the image quality by eliminating interference patterns but also to enable a tomographic imaging by adding depth resolution. Finally, we explain their other applications to spectroscopy and characterization of electronics devices.
