ABSTRACT

The continuing increase of the ageing population has been an irreversible global trend. The ageing population of China, by the end of 2012, had reached 194 million, accounting for 14.3% of the overall population. According to the Research on the Developing Trend of China’s Population Aging, released by the Chinese National Committee on Aging in December 2007, the ageing population will have amounted to 248 million by 2020, and 400 million by 2050, with a growth rate of 30%, and by then, the more ageing population would live in cities due to the gathering pace of urbanization. Bearing in mind all these considerations, it is going to be essential to solve elderly inhabitants’ problems and to create better living conditions for them during future city constructions.
