ABSTRACT

In the past several decades, we have witnessed an explosion of multimedia content, such as music, images, and video. One of the main driving forces behind this phenomenon is the availability of effective compression algorithms for such data. While conventional text compression such as ZIP exploits predictabilities in the bit representation of the input text, the compression of visual data, such as an image, typically focuses on organizing regularities in its visual perception.
