Modelling of concrete behaviour book
The chapter presents an analytical description of the deformational and strength characteristics of concrete and steel. The analytical expressions proposed for concrete were derived from an analysis of data obtained from tests on specimens subjected to triaxial loading by using techniques capable of both inducing definable states of stress in the specimens and measuring reliably the deformational response of concrete. However, the important feature of the analysis was that it attributed the non-linear material behaviour to the internal stresses resulting from the fracture processes discussed in the preceding chapter. On the other hand, the analytical description of the properties of the steel reinforcement, for which there is little room for variation and disagreement, follows the recommendation of current codes for the design of concrete structures.
