ABSTRACT

The structure modelling is based on the finite-element (FE) approach which is so widely used nowadays – both in practice and for research – that a detailed treatment of it in the present work – where the technique is employed merely as a numerical tool – would be superfluous. Instead, only the briefest of general outlines will be given here, mainly in order to fix ideas and notation, and the ensuing condensed summary will form the starting point to the subject of interest, namely the non-linear finite-element analysis (NLFEA) of concrete structures. On the other hand, emphasis will be placed on the description of the manner in which widely used numerical techniques have been modified and used for the development of a non-linear strategy that forms the basis of the numerical scheme proposed in the present book as the most suitable one for the analysis of concrete structures.
