ABSTRACT

In 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the goal

of reducing global noncommunicable disease (NCD) mortality by

25% in 2025-“25 by 25”—among adults 30 to 70 years of age.420

NCDs include cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, chronic lung

diseases, and diabetes. They kill three in five people worldwide. The

greatest reductions in NCD mortality will come from population-

wide interventions that address the risk factors of:

• tobacco use; • unhealthy diet; • lack of physical activity; and • harmful use of alcohol.
