The year 1953 was a great year for the British Empire: Queen
Elizabeth II was coronated, Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay
reached the top of Mount Everest as part of a successful British
expedition, and two scientists at the University of Cambridge were
able to uncover the structure of the most important “molecule of
life,” DNA.
