ABSTRACT
The average speed is distinctly different from the average velocity: it is just the distance traveled (i.e., the length of the path traveled) divided by the change in time. For our example, it is the change in the car’s odometer reading divided by the elapsed time. The exercise below illustrates the difference between average speed and average velocity.
