ABSTRACT

During the past years, nanomaterials are receiving increasing attention as candidates for the development and fabrication of high-sensitivity biosensors, given the accurate control of their physicochemical properties and overall behavior as a result of the precise control over their size, shape, and composition. Within this context, the particular morphology and overall properties of nanostructured porous silicon (nanoPS), which is composed of silicon crystals with typical sizes in the range of a few nanometers, make this material very suitable for its use in the field of chemical sensing and biosensing. In this chapter we will revise our most significant findings in the area of optical and electrical biosensing using nanoPS.
