ABSTRACT

B – 11 The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is a useful tool for objectively recording the conscious state of a patient, both as an initial and continuing assessment. The maximum score is 15, which implies full consciousness, and the minimum score is 3, which implies deep unconsciousness. The scale comprises three tests: eye, verbal and motor (EVM) responses. It is the best response to each of these categories that is used in the score.
