ABSTRACT
Technological development of gas cluster ion beam (GCIB) equipment has required innovations in a number of areas, including in generation of cluster beams, ionization of clusters, and cluster ion transport. In this chapter, the development work that has been conducted on these topics is described, and results of fundamental studies that contributed to the necessary understanding of the characteristics of clusters are discussed.
