ABSTRACT

Agricultural production is affected by many factors and management decisions at a field level that can impact yields, nutrient use efficiency, and soil and water conservation. Management decisions to increase agricultural production at the site should also consider how site-specific landscape properties interact with local weather and management to potentially impact sustainability at the site and the environment off-site. Management decisions made for a given site-specific field affect the potential flow of nutrients, agrochemicals, and sediment, contributing to their total mass flow out of the watershed. Managing spatial and temporal variability will be important in minimizing the potential flows of nutrients, agrochemicals, and sediment transport, especially since there is a need to reduce the massive flows coming from hot spot areas of fields and watersheds.
