ABSTRACT
Because health information technology (IT) requires interacting with people and inevitably affects them and their workow, understanding health IT requires a focus on the inter-relation between technology and its social context. A sociotechnical perspective aims to do just this and recognizes the complex interactions between people and technology and seeks to unravel these in order to improve the design and implementation of technological applications (Berg et al. 2003).
