ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The main bridge of Nhat Tan bridge is a 1500 m long, 6-span cable stayed bridge with 8 traffic lanes. The bridge is the “edge girder” type that is a continuous composite girder consisting of a 35.6 m precast reinforced concrete deck on 2 I-beam steel edge girders. Balanced cantilever erection was adopted for the whole span of bridge, resulting in a 4 times closure works were required. Additionally, according to specific regulation of SoutheastAsia, occurrence of crack on concrete deck and pylon was impermissible during erection even a negligibly small level of crack that would not affect structural soundness. Therefore, the cantilever step must be determined to minimize occurrence of crack on any concrete structure.
