ABSTRACT

Social goals, such as improving nutritional health status and addressing inequities in commercial distribution of fresh foods can be addressed through food-assistance programs. Some programs focus on health and nutrition status concerns for specific populations, such the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), some programs focus on ensuring foremost that people do not go hungry, such as the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and some programs, namely the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) actually act as a bulwark for income in low-income populations.
