ABSTRACT
General engineering applications are reviewed in Table 9.1. These include gears, bearings, valves, seals, pump impellers, piston rings, pipes and hoses, compression valves, plugs, and wear pads.
One of the critical applications of reinforced plastics is in the manufacture of gears. Traditionally having been fabricated in metals, plastic gears are discussed in more detail below.
