ABSTRACT

Mixing is the process of bringing two or more components and/ or phases together into intimate contact in order to achieve a desired outcome. Typically used to promote homogeneity, promote the dissolution of a solute, or enhance the rate of mass transfer or the rate of a chemical reaction, mixing may involve dispersing one phase through. Dispersing a gas in the form of bubbles through liquids such as through the action of sparging or through fluidized beds of solid particulates may enhance both heat and mass transfer. Alternatively, solid particles can be dispersed through a liquid for the same purpose.
