ABSTRACT

GUYTON W.F. 15.10. 1917 Oxford MS/USA 02.03. 2013 Austin TX/USA William Franklin Guyton obtained the BS and the MS degrees in 1938 from University of Mississippi, Rolla MS, and the civil engineering degree there in 1945. He was engaged as hydraulic engineer from 1939 to 1950 by the Groundwater Branch of the US Geological Survey USGS, becoming then consulting groundwater hydrologist at Austin TX. He also was in 1945 a consultant on groundwater supplies for the US Army on the Pacific Islands. He settled in 1951 at Austin TX, establishing a consulting firm which specialized in groundwater hydrology and general issues with groundwater flow. Guyton was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE, the American Geophysical Union AGU, and of the American Water Works Association AWWA. Guyton was an expert in groundwater hydrology. While working in Mississippi State he produced a study on the groundwater supply at Camp Van Dorn MI. Next to geological aspects of the Mississippi River Plain, the study is concerned with the water supply of Wilkinson County. The 1946 paper deals with cold water that was added to the principal aquifer through several supply wells. The large depression cone resulting from prior pumping was filled by artificial and natural recharge. The 1948 paper reviews methods used for measuring water levels to interprete changes in levels, and for using these measurements in aquifer tests. Anonymous (1994). Guyton, William F.
