RAWHOUSER 01.02. 1902 York PA/USA 31.03. 1991 Hawaii HI/USA Clarence Rawhouser graduated in 1930 with a civil engineering degree from University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati OH, and the MSc degree in 1943 from University of Colorado, Boulder CO. He was from 1929 surveyor of the US Army Corps of Engineers, before becoming a dam engineer for the Design and Construction Branch, the US Bureau of Reclamation USBR, Denver CO, from 1930 to 1952. While with the Bureau, he was in the team for the planning and design of Hoover, Grand Coulee, and Hungry Horse dams, in the 1930s and 1940s the main structures built in dam engineering. From 1952 to 1955 he was a member of the Technical Corporation Mission to the Central Water and Power Commission of India, and then until 1959 served as dam design engineer and project engineer the International Corporation Administration, Washington DC. He also served as consulting dam design engineer Seattle WA from 1959 to 1960, and as hydro-electric engineer of the United Nations Technical Assistance Operation first in Colombo, Sri Lanka until 1962, and then in Taiwan. Rawhouser was in 1948 the US delegate to the second International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, held at Rotterdam NL; the Third Congress on Large Dams ICOLD, held at Stockholm S; the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage ICID; and the War Department Team for inspection of bombed hydroelectric structures. He was in 1963 and 1964 a special consultant to the Conservancy Bureau, Taiwan ROC. Rawhouser was a member and Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE, and the Colorado Society of Engineers. He was a registered engineers in Colorado.
