ABSTRACT

ROGERS 07.08. 1890 Detroit MI/USA 05.06. 1957 Brooklyn NY/USA Harry Stanley Rogers graduated from the University of Wyoming, Laramie WY, with the BSc degree in civil engineering in 1914, and he received in 1926 the degree of civil engineer. He was awarded in 1935 the DSc degree from Northeastern University, Boston MA, in 1942 the Doctor of Laws from the University of Wyoming, Laramie WY, and in 1950 the Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic, Troy NY. Upon graduation, he served as instructor at the Universities of Iowa, Iowa City IA; Wyoming; Washington, Seattle WA; and at Lafayette College, Easton PA. He became in 1919 design engineer, but returned to education in 1920, as professor of hydraulics and irrigation engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis OR, where he was in 1927 appointed Dean of Engineering, and in 1928 Director of the College’s Engineering Experiment Station. He accepted in 1933 the appointment of president of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn NY, which position he held until his death. Rogers was involved in few hydraulic projects during his career, including a report on stream pollution control, and a report on the sanitary conditions of Willamette Valley. He further contributed a paper on the status of the Engineering School, which in the 1920s underwent notable changes from the old into the then modern style. Rogers was more the organizer of technical education, serving as dean and president of engineering colleges. He was member of the American Institute of Consulting Engineers AICE, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME, and the American Society for Engineering Education ASEE, which awarded him the 1953 Lamme Award. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE from 1927. Anonymous (1957). Dr. Harry Stanley Rogers dies. Electrical Engineering 76(8):704. P Anonymous (1958). Harry Stanley Rogers.
