ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 introduced the basic concepts of atomic bonding and crystal structure. Chapter 5 provides a more-detailed discussion of crystal structure. An extended discussion of crystal structure is necessary to help the reader understand the wide range of ceramic materials and their properties. We start by defining the notation that is commonly used to describe different aspects of crystals and crystal structure. We then discuss crystal chemistry and finish by reviewing specific metallic and ceramic crystal structures.
