ABSTRACT

Anabolic steroid use is said to be increasing, but neither the 2014 edition of the United Nations World Drug Report, the U.S. Government’s National Drug Threat Assessment for 2010, nor the 2010 report of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction even mentioned the anabolic steroids. A publication sponsored by the U.S. government, the Monitoring the Future Survey (MTF) (Johnston et al., 2011), does discuss steroid abuse, and it found, contrary to media claims, that the rate of anabolicandrogenic steroid (AAS) abuse is now very nearly equal to the rate reported three decades ago.
