ABSTRACT

Many amphetamine analogs have been created and are readily available worldwide. e most widely known are 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA), and p-methoxyamphetamine (PMA). Numerous analogs such as “2C-B” have been produced and all have strong stimulant activities. Several piperazine and pyrrolidinophenone derivatives also mimic the actions of amphetamines. ese are discussed here. e increasingly popular new drug mephedrone (4-methylmethcathinone) belongs to a series of beta-keto amphetamine derivatives based on cathinone, a naturally occurring amphetamine found in the khat plant. Other members of this group include butylone (bk-MBDB [1,3-benzodioxolyl-Nmethylbutanamine]) and methylone (bk-MDMA).
