ABSTRACT

In this chapter we prove Theorem 1.4.1, which is the main result of this book. In §18.1, we show that Theorem 1.4.1 follows from a very technical Theorem 18.1.1. In §18.2, we prove three auxiliary results that are used in the proof of Theorem 18.1.1. In §18.3 and §18.4, we prove Theorem 18.1.1. In §18.5, we give an alternative proof of one technical assertion of §18.3 that is based on the technique of multiplier ideal sheaves. The advantage of this alternative proof is that it does not use the results of Chapter 17 as much as the original proof does. In §18.6, we give an alternative proof of the main result of §18.4 that uses a “multiplication by two” trick (see Lemma 2.4.5) and the technique of multiplier ideal sheaves.
